The Mercedes Vision EQXX, has a range of up to 1000km and can charge in just 15 minutes.

The Mercedes Vision EQXX is a revolutionary new car, that is sure to change the way we think about Electric cars.

On the 5th of April, the vehicle made the journey from Germany to the South coast of France.

The EQXX reached the Mediterranean Sea, with over 140 kilometres (87 miles) of range remaining in its battery. When it arrived, the Vision EQXX had 15% charge remaining.

This means the vehicle would have been able to travel 715 miles in real life, around 1,150 kilometres.

On the German leg of its journey, reports say that Schafer said that, the car reached speeds of 140km/h (87mph) and an average speed of around 90km/h (around 56mph).

The Mercedes EQXX achieved energy consumption of 7.14 miles per kWh on arrival in Cassis. This was well above its target of six m/kWh.

It was also said that the EQXX was also sitting in traffic whilst on it’s journey!

The Mercedes Vision EQXX’s range is considerably greater, than most current premium EVs.

The high range isn’t due to a larger battery.

However, it uses lightweight materials and a relatively conventionally sized battery.

The four-seater family car, has raised the bar for both range and efficiency to new heights.

The Efficiency

The new EV’s will not be measured in horsepower, km/h or seconds, they will be measured in efficiency.

The Mercedes Vision EQXX has an energy efficiency of 95%.

Instead of just making the battery larger and heavier, Mercedes has dramatically improved energy density to 200 Wh/kg.

This allows the car to store almost 100 kWh” of capacity, according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

It also implies that, in terms of volume and weight, it takes up 50% less space and is 30% lighter than batteries with comparable capacity.

In combination with advanced materials from Formula One, for example, Mercedes has boosted the battery endurance, by employing state-of-the-art silicon anodes.

The energy supply system, which provides electricity to a number of auxiliary equipment in the VISION EQXX, is powered by solar cells on the roof.

This lowers the high-volt system’s energy needs, resulting in better range.

This increases the range of your car, by up to 25 kilometres in one day with ideal conditions.

The Interior

The interior of the Mercedes Vision EQXX is surprisingly varied, with mushrooms, bamboo, cactus, and vegan silk among the materials used.

This demonstrates that, it is still feasible to create the greatest in automotive luxury, while avoiding the use of animals, resulting in an incomparable sense of luxury.
It is said that, it has halved the carbon footprint of the leather alone.

The new EQXX has a 8k 47.5-inch seamless display, which spans the full width of the car’s interior.

The virtual assistant in the Mercedes Vision EQXX is a ‘road-trip sidekick,’ and real-time 3D navigation that employs satellite data.

It can also be zoomed down to a height of 10 meters with a standard pinch and swipe motions, providing a 3D view.

What does this mean for the future?

Mercedes believe that for buyers of smaller cars in the future, will benefit from the accomplishment of the new Mercedes Vision EQXX, with reference to it’s battery size.

It has been said that, over the next few years they will try to introduce the technology into smaller cars.

It is believed that it will halve the energy consumption of current Electric cars.

It may be possible in the near future, for buyers to be able to choose the size of the battery they require based on their needs.

According to some sources, the objective is now to produce EV’s that use less than 10 kilowatt hours of energy per 100 kilometres.

Want to know more about EV’s?

We offer a variety of courses that can give you the information you need about electric and hybrid vehicles.

The Level 1 Hybrid and Electric Training Course, is to raise awareness of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles. This course is aimed at anyone that may come into contact with Hybrid and Electric Vehicles.

Level 2 Hybrid and Electric Light Vehicle Training Course, Level 2 HGV Training Course and Level 2 Buses Training Course. The Level 2 course is aimed at mechanics and car valeters.

The Level 3 Hybrid and Electric Training Course, is aimed at technicians and mechanics.

Information about our Hybrid Courses and what we will cover:

  • Safe system shut down and recommissioning.
  • Methods of safe component and system test and measurement.
  • Using and interpreting vehicle wiring diagrams & tech data for speedy and efficient repairs.
  • Hybrid propulsion and energy generation systems.
  • Brush less 3 Phase Motor form and function.
  • DC and AC (3 phase) Control Systems.
  • Using OEM, Pass-thru and Aftermarket Scan Tools for in vehicle system and component diagnosis.
  • How to work safely on hybrid and related vehicle systems.
  • How to carry out maintenance and repair activities when working on Hybrid vehicles.
  • Construction and function of battery modules and related components

It is anticipated that Level 3 will be the minimum requirement in the future.

Best practice dictates that each technical staff member should be qualified to at least level 2 (service technician).

Diagnostic technicians should be qualified to level 3 (for fault diagnosis and removal, test and refit of high voltage systems).

Our trainers are experienced in the field and can provide you with all the knowledge you need.
